Frequently Asked Questions

How many students does FCCS have?

FCCS has about 610 enrolled students for the 2022-2023 school year.

Is FCCS accredited?

FCCS is a fully accredited member of the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) as well as the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and is a charter member of the Christian Schools of Duval County (CSDC).

Are your teachers certified?

All of our teachers must hold a minimum of a bachelor degree with a major or minor in their field of instruction and maintain certification with FACCS through continuing education.

What kind of curriculum do you use?

FCCS uses a combination of A Beka Book and Bob Jones University Press curricula in K3-12th grade.

Do you offer advanced classes, honors classes, and dual enrollment?

Advanced math courses begin in seventh grade. Additional advanced and/or honors courses in Bible, math, science and social studies begin in ninth grade. For those who meet the academic requirements, dual enrollment through Florida State College at Jacksonville is offered beginning in eleventh grade.

What type of Bible do students use?

Christian teaching in the school is from a Biblical approach using the King James Version of the Bible.

Will my child have Bible class each day?

Yes, each student will have a Bible class each day. Each student will also attend a chapel service once a week. Dress code is the same for chapel days.

Are there certain requirements for students in the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (grades K3 and VPK) Program?

Yes. All K3 students must turn 3 years old on or before September 1 of the current year. All VPK students must turn 4 years old on or before September 1 of the current year.  Each student will also need to be fully potty trained. 

How many students are in each classroom?

In our K3 program, if more than 12 students are in a classroom, a full-time aid will be provided. In our VPK program, if more than 10 students are in a classroom, a full-time aid will be added. In kindergarten, no more than 22 will be added to a class. In grades 1-12, no more than 25 will be added to a class. 

Is there a haircut requirement for boys?

Yes. Hair must be neat and well-groomed and should not touch or hang below the eyebrows, or the collar of the shirt. Boys are not permitted to have spiked hair, ponytails, mohawks, frohawks, man buns, or shaved heads. No designs, lines, or parts may be cut into the hair. Hair must be a natural color, not bleached or dyed.

Is there a hair requirement for ladies?

Yes. Hair must be a natural color (blond, black, brown, or natural red). Highlights are allowed but must also be a natural hair color. Hair that is colored bright red or orange is not permitted.

What are your school hours?

The school hours are the following:

 

Morning extended care: 6:45 am- Start of School

Afternoon extended care: After school- 6:00 pm

After school study hall (7th-12th): 3:30 pm-6:00 pm

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (K3 AM): 8:10 am- 11:30 am 

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (K3 school hours): 8:10 am- 2:30 pm

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (K3 with extended care): 6:45 am- 6:00 pm

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK AM): 8:10 am- 12:00 pm

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK school hours): 8:10 am- 2:30 pm

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK with extended care): 6:45 am- 6:00 pm

What type of campus security is provided?

First Coast is continually improving campus security. This includes adding surveillance cameras throughout the campus, securing entrances, and requiring each visitor to sign-in and receive a badge. Additional measures are always being considered as safety is extremely important to FCCS.

What sports programs are available at FCCS?

At First Coast Christian School, interscholastic athletic competition is an important part of campus life. Students in sixth through twelfth grade can participate in one or more of our athletic teams.  Below is a list of the Athletic Programs offered at FCCS to students that have already excelled off the field.

Do you offer VPK?

Yes, we offer the free Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program through the State of Florida with the certificate from the Early Learning Coalition.

What lunch options are available?

All students have the option of bringing their lunch. Hot lunch is also available. Parents will need to add money to their students’ online school lunch account. Lunch prices are available through the school office.

What before and after school daycare is available?

Before and after school care is offered to all enrolled students at FCCS.  Parents need to sign-up for this service on a monthly basis. We offer before care from 6:45 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. and after care from 2:40 p.m. to 6 p.m. for preschool and elementary school students. Study Hall is offered for middle and high school students from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

What is the dress code?

Students in grades 1-12 at FCCS wear uniforms purchased from Lands’ End Uniform. A dress code is established to remind parents and students that dress and appearance must be in good taste and not be a distraction to the operation of the school and its purpose. Students in grades K3-K5 wear certain color polos and bottoms.

Is technology integrated in your program?

At FCCS, we implement technology into every aspect of the student experience. From 1:1 iPads, to STEM Club, we strive to prepare our students for the world of technology that awaits them. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate STEM activities into their daily curriculum, which allows them to utilize equipment such as Promethean boards, 3D printers, and robotics. We also offer Coding classes in both Middle and High school, for students desiring the challenge of learning a coding language.

What type of testing is given during the school year?

FCCS students from grades K5-11 take the MAPPS Growth test.  This test is required, and parents should plan to have their student present for testing week. Scores are used for middle school students to help determine class placement for high school.

Admissions Questions

What is the applications process for applying for my children?

All students applying for First Coast Christian School must go through our application process, which consists of completing testing, providing all academic records, and providing references. Upon receiving all the information, the file will be reviewed and a possible interview with the principal will take place. The family will be notified of the acceptance or denial at the interview.

How do I begin the application process?

Applications are completed online.

After completion of the application process, what documents do I need to complete the application process and registration?

Once the online application has been completed and testing has been scheduled with the admissions director, you will need to provide the following documents for the entire packet to be reviewed. 

  • Copy of the birth certificate
  • Florida Health Department physical
  • Florida Health Department Immunization record
  • VPK Certificate (VPK only)
  • Online character reference form completed
  • Online discipline reference form completed
  • Full report card for last two years and/or transcript
  • Standardized testing scores from previous school
How do I schedule a tour?

Educational Consults, which include a tour, can be scheduled by calling our Director of Admissions at (904)361-3037.

Do you offer open houses?

We have open house every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Will my student need to take standardized testing at FCCS?

Yes. All applicants for grades 2nd through 12th will be required to take the reading comprehension and math section of the MAPPS Growth testing. This testing, along with transcript, report card, and references will be used in considering acceptance at FCCS.

Financial Questions

What fees do I have to pay in order to register at FCCS?

There is an initial $100 registration fee that will be due at the time of registration for all full-time students in grades K3-12. Depending on the time of your registration, and the payment plan you choose, tuition payments may also be due.

Are there payment plans available?

Tuition payment plans are available. Payment plan options include the following:

  • One-time payment- If choosing this option and are a full pay parent, a 4% discount will be applied to your tuition.
  • Semester payments
  • Monthly payments: 10-month plan beginning in August, 11-month plan beginning in July, or 12-month plan beginning in June.
  • Semi-monthly payments

Is there financial aid and scholarships available?

We offer school-funded financial aid to families who are currently enrolled in our school. FCCS accepts Step Up for Students (SUFS). SUFS is an income-based scholarship. More information can be found on stepupforstudents.org.
